Rhea Ahong

Choosing her outfits from a very young age, Trinidadian Rhea Ahong naturally gravitated to Fashion Design. The profession for which she was made. Being a petite young individual, she has always had to adjust clothes to fit her size. Her grandmother initially showed her how to sew and soon she was sewing curtains and even cushion covers during her holidays.

It should be noted that Rhea possesses a Bachelors of Arts in Architecture (BAAS), but instead of sketching buildings only, she sometimes found pleasure in sketching swimsuits and dresses. With a love for the beach and with her loads of sketches, it was only a matter of time before she set out on the journey to create her first collection and launch her brand.

Rhea admits to be totally obsessed with the Colombian brand Agua Bendita, and likes that in being very conceptual, Agua maintains a theme for each collection and then expertly executes. “They never seem to follow the trend but set their own styles and standards which differentiates them from the rest”. She considers their brand as bright, bold, striking and most memorable and strives to one day have her brand be known for same.

Completing her first collection is one of her proudest moments. The brand was officially launched showing the first collection “Emblazon” at the Trinidad Lookbook’s Style Spirit Fashion show in December 2012. This was followed by being featured in the premier issue of IslandMe magazine. Four of her suits were styled into looks for the cover girl.

It should be mentioned that Rhea designed the fabric for her first collection and had them printed abroad. She strives to design all future fabrics she uses.
